The peritoneum is the serous membrane forming the lining of the abdominal cavity or coelom in amniotes and some invertebrates such as annelids it covers most of the intra abdominal or coelomic organs and is composed of a layer of mesothelium supported by a thin layer of connective tissuethe peritoneum is a serous membrane formed by connective tissue originating from the mesoderm and confirmed by the parietal layer which cover the internal walls of the abdomen and the visceral layer which cover the abdominal viscera providing support protection and nutritionthe perineum is the region between the thighs inferior to the pelvic diaphragm the boundaries of this region are the same as that for the pelvic outlet namely the pubic symphysis ischiopubic rami sacrotuberous ligaments and coccyx the perineum has a roof formed by the pelvic diaphragm and a floor of fascia and skin it peritoneum peritoneum large membrane in the abdominal cavity that connects and supports internal organs it is composed of many folds that pass between or around the various organs two folds are of primary importance the omentum which hangs in front of the stomach and intestine and the mesentery whichthe peritoneum is a continuous membrane which lines the abdominal cavity and covers the abdominal organs abdominal viscera it acts to support the viscera and provides pathways for blood vessels and lymph to travel to and from the viscera in this article we shall look at the anatomy of the peritoneum its structure relationship with the abdominal organs and any clinical correlations
